We made it to our first base of operations, the bucolic Mosel village of Cochem, a mere 8000 km from Vancouver as the crow flies. Fortunately we didn't fly by crow, but by KLM. KLM lived up to its usual standards and it was a very enjoyable flight, except for Judy who sat beside a space invader with the smallest bladder known to mankind. And I don't mean Ron.
Four trains later and a total of 42 relative hours of travel we checked into Weingut Haxel. Hot, hungary and fairly jet-lagged we found an inviting terrace just across the street and settled in.
So glad you are safely there!
