The Old Town, New Town, All Around the Town

After a nice breakfast in our hotel we set off across the sparsely populated Charles Bridge.  We wound our way down to the Old Town Square and ascended the clock tower for a panoramic view .

I do not like crowds.  To make matters even worse add people with selfie sticks and to really, really, really make it intolerable add a bunch of imbeciles on Segways.  I've come up with a solution::  we will hold tournaments in the town square where people mounted on Segways will joust with one another using selfie sticks instead of lances.  The survivor will be clubbed to death with the largest telephoto lens in the crowd.   Well, at least it's nice to dream.

We started off on our walking tour of the Old Town and we can't begin to list all of the wonderful old buildings and sights we passed.   After a couple of hours of straining our necks looking up we sat down at a sidewalk cafe in front of the Municipal House (one of the best examples of Art Nouveau in the world).

One other really remarkable spot was at the Church of St. James.   Being Sunday, there was a mass in session with a choir and a beautiful soloist. 

Winding our way through the maze-like streets of Old Town we crossed into New Town.  The famous/infamous Wenceslas Square has nothing to recommend it except for its place in recent Czech history and an enormous music store.   By the time we worked our way back from Wencelas Square we thought it might be a good time to perform the daily strudel and beer ceremony.   The little sidewalk cafe we stopped at surprised us with an enormous confection.   

We backtracked to the Prague Jewish Quarter where we toured the Jewish museum which consists of 6 synagogues, a ceremonial hall and a Jewish Cemetary (bonus - I got a loaner yalmuka).

After a little more wandering we settled for a light dinner and home.
